Impact
None of us are free, until all of us are free.
Our guiding principles at YPI include integrity, nature connection and responsibility, social justice, collaboration, courage and generosity.
We aim for diversity, inclusivity, equity and accessibility in our work.
We give away loads of free information and training every week on our website, email newsletters and social media channels.
We offer scholarships for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and other communities.
We deeply honour the land, and its traditional custodians, on which we live, work and play.
We honour the sources of the knowledge we share.
We give a lot of consideration to which structures to respect, which to tolerate and which to break down.
We acknowledge that our sincere intentions don’t always mean that we get it right, and are humbly committed to ongoing listening, learning and evolving.

Where it all started
In 2007, when Dr Lauren Tober returned to Australia to complete her doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology after spending 18 months in London and India studying yoga, the university didn’t know what to make of her intention to research yoga and mental health.
She settled on researching Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for re-current depression and co-morbid anxiety, however was only biding her time until she could return to her first passion, yoga.
Many years (and many twists-and-turns) later, the Yoga Psychology Institute was born out of this long-held desire to explore the depths and integration of yogic wisdom and western psychology for health, healing, happiness and awakening.
We’re glad you’re here.
