YOGA PSYCHOLOGY MENTORSHIP
Yoga is often translated to mean union. But how do we bring together the worlds of contemporary psychology and the ancient wisdom of yoga?
Join Dr Lauren Tober for this innovative 5-month mentorship for mental health professionals who are also yoga teachers to confidently, ethically and soulfully integrate yoga into your therapy work.
Imagine, if you will, a deep and intentional yoga practice that translates into a deeply aligned therapy practice.
IT IS POSSIBLE.
Let me show you how.
So you’re a therapist and a yoga teacher…
THAT’S SUCH A GREAT COMBO!
I bet you have a lot of questions about how to integrate these two worlds, right?
You’ve done the training. You’ve sat with clients. You’ve been on the mat. But you’re still unsure.
Perhaps you’ve started gently weaving yoga into sessions, but you still wonder:
Am I doing it right?
Despite your qualifications and years of experience, you’re lacking the confidence to translate what you know in your body and learnt in your yoga trainings into your work.
Am I even allowed to do this?
The ethical guidelines of evidence-based practice, dual relationships and scope-of-practice can be tricky to navigate, and you don’t want to risk your registration.
Where's the line between therapy and yoga?
Can I bring yoga into 1:1 therapy? Am I allowed to teach regular yoga classes at a studio? What about retreats? How do I put together a group therapy yoga program? Help!
How is everyone else doing it?
You can see other therapists bringing yoga into their work and you’re curious about what they’re doing, why they’re doing it that way, and how they’re doing it without getting in trouble.
Or maybe you’ve been holding back – wanting to integrate yoga into your work, but feeling unsure about how to do it safely, professionally and within your scope of practice.
You’re not alone.
And you’re in the right place.
WE’RE HERE FOR
The curious humans who are:
MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
Whether you’re a psychologist, social worker, counsellor, psychiatrist, doctor or other allied health professional or coach working (or training) in the mental health space, you are wholeheartedly invited to join us.
YOGA TEACHERS
Whether you’ve been teaching yoga for decades, have just finished your teacher training course or are still underway. And all styles of yoga (including yoga nidra) are welcome!
READY TO INTEGRATE YOGA INTO YOUR WORK
You’re keen to practice and work in a way that feels soulful, sustainable and aligned, and still meets the legal and ethical requirements of your registration.

WE BELIEVE THAT
YOGA BELONGS IN THE THERAPY ROOM
IN THIS FIVE MONTH MENTORSHIP YOU WILL:
1
Deepen your own yoga practice, so you’re practicing in a way that is aligned and feels sustainable and nourishing (not just another thing on your endless to do list).
2
Get clarity (and action) on how you will bring yoga into your therapy work, in a way that lights you up and meets the needs of your clients without risking your registration.
3
Develop your own program – a signature way of working 1:1 with clients, a group therapy protocol, a retreat or anything you like – and get loving feedback from the group on it.
4
Be part of a supportive and like-minded community of therapists who are also yoga teachers (let me introduce you to the amazing humans in our community!).
OVERVIEW
WHAT WE COVER

YOGA AS SVĀDHYĀYA
Yoga is all about self enquiry! Experience and learn embodied practices and prompts to support your own self knowledge and guide your clients to gently come home to themselves.
MODULE FOUR
YOGA IN PRACTICE
Let’s get practical. We’ll talk ethics, legalities, business models, marketing, money, structuring programs and designing a therapy practice that works for your life. Business meets soul.
MODULE FIVE
YOGA AS DHARMA
Get clear on your why and create meaningful and sustainable work that serves both your personal evolution and facilitates healing, growth and transformation for your clients.
COMMUNITY
YOGA AS SANGA
Aligned community is gold. You’ll be gathering with a heart-centred group of mental health professionals to dive together into the worlds of contemporary psychology and yogic wisdom. We’re going deep.
“Our studies show that yoga is equally as beneficial – or more beneficial – than the best possible medications in alleviating traumatic stress symptoms”
BESSEL VAN DER KOLK, M.D.

WHO IS THIS MENTORSHIP FOR?
This mentorship is for mental health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, counsellors, doctors, psychiatrists and allied health professionals and coaches working in the mental health space, who are also yoga teachers (in any modality), and are seeking an embodied and soulful way to blend the fields of yoga and psychology.
It’s for heartfelt and soul-led practitioners who want to deepen their own sadhāna, intentionally craft a therapy practice that lights them up and connect with others on the path.
How does the mentorship work?
On Friday 8th August at 9am AEST we’ll meet for the first live session online. If you can’t make it live, you can watch the recording afterwards.
You will then get access to the first module in our beautiful online Shala, where you’ll find pre-recorded teaching sessions, embodied practices, reflective prompts and guides on how to bring this into your work. You’ll be invited to work through this material in your time throughout the fortnight.
The five modules across the five months include:
- Yoga as Sādhana
- Yoga as Sattva
- Yoga as Svādhyāya
- Yoga in Practice
- Yoga as Dharma
- Yoga as Sanga
Find more details about each module here.
Each fortnight we’ll meet for a group mentoring call to integrate the previous module and set the stage for the next one. It’s a chance to gather together in community, practice together and share reflections and questions.
You can find the dates here.
There’s magic that happens in these group calls, and while you don’t have to attend (and we share the recordings straight after) we love it when you can join us live.
And if you would like additional support from Dr Lauren Tober during the mentorship, you can choose the 1:1 Mentoring option for additional 1:1 sessions.
Will I get 1:1 support?
Yes, if you would like 1:1 support from Dr Lauren Tober, choose the 1:1 option when you sign up.
You’ll then join the full group program plus five 1:1 mentoring sessions designed to support you to integrate what you’re learning in the mentorship into your life and work.
In the first session you will clarify your goals, and over the subsequent sessions, work hand-in-hand with Dr Lauren to achieve them.
This might include:
- Developing your personal yoga or mediation practice
- Refining the ways that you bring yoga into your therapy work
- Discussing ethical dilemmas relevant to your work
- Exploring client issues, including the appropriateness of yoga practices for specific clients or groups
- Developing a yoga program or course for your clients or workplace
- Business mentoring to bring yoga into your work
The sessions must be completed before the end of December 2025. Dr Lauren is generally available for 1:1 sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays (in Australian business hours). Once you sign up, you will be sent the link to book in.
Each sessions lasts for 50 minutes, and can be held online from anywhere in the world.
Please note that this offering is for mentoring, not counselling.
If you would like 1:1 mentoring with Dr Lauren Tober, simply choose the 1:1 option when you sign up.
I'm still studying, is this for me?
We welcome all health professional yoga teachers, whether you’re still studying or you’ve been working for decades.
While many of the practitioners who join our programs have years of experience under their belt, we wholeheartedly welcome new therapists/teachers and therapists/teachers-in-training.
What are the pre-requisites?
We ask that you are a health professional (or health professional-in-training) and a yoga teacher (or yoga teacher-in-training).
While Dr Lauren Tober is a Clinical Psychologist we welcome all practitioners working in the mental health space, including psychologists, social workers, counsellors, doctors, psychiatrists and allied health professionals and coaches.
Likewise we welcome all yoga teachers, no matter what style of yoga you practice and teach (including yoga nidra).
If you are a yoga teacher but not a health professional, you might be interested in the the Mental Health Aware Yoga training instead.
If you are a health professional but not a yoga teacher, you might be interested in the Yoga Skills for Health Professionals training instead.
If you’re not sure if this is mentorship is suitable for you, reach out and let us know about your work, training and experience and why you would like to join the mentorship.
Is this suitable for working with Medicare?
Yes.
In the mentorship we’ll explore how to integrate yoga into your work in clinical settings, while staying safely within your professional scope of practice and the guidelines set out by professional organisations like Medicare.
Do I have to be working in Australia?
We wholeheartedly welcome practitioners from all over the world.
While Dr Lauren Tober is based in Australia and therefore is most familiar with the regulations set out by AHPRA and Medicare, our community is global, and there will be opportunities to explore the regulation requirements in your country and in your discipline with others in the group to ensure that if you choose to work within the requirements of your registration you can do so with confidence.
Is this accredited or a certification?
This is a mentorship program, not a certification or an accreditation. We presume that you already have certifications from both psychology and yoga, and this program is to support you to weave these worlds together, not offer you accreditation. This mentorship is a space for integration, reflection and embodied support.
In fact, I’m going to guess that you already have all the accreditations and certifications you need to do this work, you just need some guidance and the confidence to bring it all together in a way that works for you.
Having said that, Dr Lauren Tober is a Clinical Psychologist, a Senior Yoga Teacher (with Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliace), an AHPRA Board Approved Supervisor and Yoga Australia Registered Mentor and you will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the mentorship that you can submit to your association for CPD/CE points.
Each association differs, so please check with your individual association.
How long will I have access?
You will have access to the course material for 5-months, until the 8th of January 2025.
You will be able to download and keep many of the resources and continue to use them long after the mentorship has ended.
We intentionally decided not to offer lifetime access, as we invite you to engage in the mentorship in real time (with a little grace at the end to catch up if needed) rather than buy a program with lifetime access and never open it.
I'm busy, will I have time for this?
This mentorship is designed to fit into your busy life, whether you’re working, studying, parenting (or even travelling) full time!
There’s a lot of flexibility in the program and no one will be checking in to see if you’ve completed it.
You could put in just an hour or two a week, or you if you really wanted to go deep, you could dedicate an hour or two a day. It’s entirely up to you.
Do you have a payment plan?
Absolutely.
To make our training as affordable and accessible as possible we offer a 5-month payment plan.
You simply pay the first installment when you sign up, and then four more payments are automatically debited from your nominated account on a monthly basis.
To find all the details of the payment plan, scroll down to the bottom of the page (or click here).
Choose the option that you’re interested in signing up for and click on the payment plan sign up link to find out all the details and join us.
Is it different from Mental Health Aware Yoga?
Mental Health Aware Yoga is a 6-month training for yoga teachers to learn how to support the mental health of your students in your yoga classes.
For those who are also health professionals, you can apply many of the principles of the Mental Health Aware Yoga training to a therapeutic context.
The Yoga Psychology Mentorship is a mentoring program, not a training, and while there will be new teaching sessions each fortnight, and you will learn about evidence-based yoga practices for mental health, it is a mentorship model for practitioners who already have knowledge, experience and wisdom in both fields of yoga and mental health.
The Mental Health Aware Yoga training is more about the how-to model and the Yoga Psychology Mentorship is more of a guided exploration with fellow travellers on the path.
You are welcome to take both programs and you’ll likely find them to be complementary.
